Personal Narrative Crazy Is The Best Way Too Describe...
Compare and Contrast essay Freshman year of high school at a youth event my best friend Julia walked up and introduced herself to me. Our then boyfriends played on the same football team and were friends. We had known about each other through mutual friends and we were nervous to meet each other. Comparing myself to Julia makes me see how I appear to others, we have similar lives, yet also have some differences in them. Crazy is the best way too describe Julia or Jules as I call her. She has the funniest personality, she is goofy and bubbly. Laughter is mostly all that flows from her, she stays in a constant state of giggles and smiles. If you re her friend she will talk your ears off, but if she doesn t know you then sheââ¬â¢ll be very reserved and quiet. She tends to crack these lame jokes that only she and I find funny, everyone else doesn t find it humorous. She is compassionate and loves people. Ever since I met her, she has always been a people person. Although she has a lot of positive personality t raits she has some negative ones. She is a people person, however sometimes she turns into a people pleaser and tries to make everyone like her. She tends to get down on herself and criticizes harshly when others dont like her or something doesnt go her way. My personality is a whole lot like Juliaââ¬â¢s, however there are some differences. She is crazy with a side of cranky. Whereas I am crazy with a side of happy. I am a very

Horse Dealer s Daughter Implications Of Patriarchal...
Horse Dealerââ¬â¢s Daughterâ⬠: Ramifications of Patriarchal Society on the Main Protagonist ââ¬Å"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal (WILL ADD SOURCE NAME HERE). To many, the famous opening lines of the Declaration of Independence were intertwined heavily with the underlying infrastructure of a nation of ââ¬Å"equality and freedom. Yet, if such words were to be ââ¬Å"self-evident, where is the mention of women? It is simply absent. During the Age of Enlightenment, patriarchal society deemed women to be ââ¬Å"lessâ⬠than men. To quote from Barbara Cutterââ¬â¢s work, Gender Oppression During the Age of Enlightenment, ââ¬Å"The idea of enlightened reason excluded women because of what was seen by many as their innate feminine characteristics, which were viewed as inferior, weak and childlikeâ⬠(Cutter). While the era brought around revolutionary ideas that changed both the American and European forefront, women were entirely excluded from societal progress because their ââ¬Å"innate feminine characteristics [...] were i nferior, weak and childlikeâ⬠(Cutter). As a consequence, there were societal norms constructed for women that were highly destructive. However, while the ideas of feminine oppression were prevalent throughout the 1700ââ¬â¢s, authors incorporate a distinctive theme of oppression towards women into their literature during the era. Specifically, in the well-acclaimed short story,â⬠The Horse Dealerââ¬â¢s Daughter, author D. H. Lawrence crafts a narrative about a

Effect of Piped Music on Anxiety-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Effect of piped music on anxiety. Answer: Introduction The purpose of this research is to highlight the fact that whether any kind of piped music can help to fight anxiety disorder of the patients or it does not. In this research, the research scholar presents detailed study, which he conducted on the patients of a psychotherapist who asked him to conduct a social research on this issue on her patients waiting for consultation in the reception hall. It has been suggested from the ages that listening to music can positively impact on the psychological state of people as it is believed that the sound of piped music can effectively reduce the stress factors (Hsu, Chen Hsiep, 2016). As the psychotherapist has invited the research scholar to conduct a study in her reception hall, the researcher decided to study approximately 25 patients of the therapist and they will be exposed to a standard stress test after conditioning their mind with some sort of piped music for half an hour. In this paper, various relevant literature and theories will b e studied and then relevant stress tests will be performed. Primary data will be collected and analyzed in order to disclose the results. Literature review and hypothesis It has been widely believed that light soothing music, especially music of piped instruments can significantly help to reduce any kind of stress and the social research conducted by the research scholar in the reception of a psychotherapist is to justify the reliability of this idea (Gan, Lim Haw, 2016). This literature provides a limited number of investigations done by the researcher and provides a hypothesis that is yet to be proved. As the sample size is smaller and the patients of the psychotherapists come with various types of psychological disorders, the results of the test might have some shortcomings. When the researcher exposed 25 male and female patients to the stress test after conditioning their brain with soft piped music for more than half an hour, the salivary cortisol, heart rate, respiratory sinus arrhythmia, subjective anxiety and perception of stress is assessed and recorded for the research work. Later, the researcher again asked the respondents to go through th e stress test without prior listening to any piped music or any kinds of music. It has been seen that the new test results did not significantly vary from the results which were taken earlier after conditioning the patients with the piped music. For very few of the patients the test results changed in a significant manner (Hole et al., 2015). Apart from the stress test, the research scholar took interview of the patients and also distributed a questionnaire to them so that they can give their views and that would help the researcher to come to a conclusion. According to Chang (2015), it can be said that the root of the anxiety disorder of the patients are the determining factors whether the music of piped instrument can lower the stress factors or not. Thus it can be said that effectiveness off the piped music in reducing stress is strictly case specific and no one can draw a proper conclusion with a compact result for this case. It is widely known that music can help to initiate th e multitude of cognitive process of the brain and also can influence processes which are strictly stress related. On the other hand, according to Gallego and Garca (2017), it is also believed that listening to piped music can majorly influence the cognitive processes which are related to stress and the previous stress test taken by the researcher concluded that piped music can at times lowers the perceived stress and anxiety which are related to anxiety and stress (Simavli et al., 2014). In this regard, it can be said that listening to piped music somehow alters the level of relaxation in the minds of the respondents under the stressful context. It is also seen that listening to any kind relaxing soothing of music can o some extent trigger the level of activity of the parts of brain which takes active parts in modulating the level of anxiety in the human brain. It can also be said that the inadequacy of the study in this context and the lack of respondents can reduce the accuracy of the research work and to determine the effects of piped music on the SAA levels or on the stress-induced cortisols (Gan, Lim Haw, 2016). In this particular context it can be said that the effectiveness of the research is limited as the research work is done under laboratory like environment and the sample size is significantly small. Research questions RQ 1. Does listening to piped music reduce the level of anxiety? RQ2. Does listening to piped music helps people to relax when they are facing any type of anxiety? Research hypothesis RH 1. Sound of piped music can reduce stress level of some of the individuals who are suffering from minor psychological disorders. RH 0. Listening to piped music would not impact on the anxiety disorder of the respondents. Methodology Philosophy of the research Positivism, post positivism, realism and interpretivism are the frequently used research philosophies. The realism philosophy induces the researcher to get involved with the incessant process of the research though at times it is not at all possible to get the results. Positivism philosophy can help to make the scientific observations and helps to contact the analyzed statistical data. In this regard, only the process that is scientific can properly utilize this philosophy of positivism (Lewis, 2015). For this particular social research the research scholar has chosen post positivism philosophy to study the existing theories regarding the issue and also to study the background knowledge. It can be said that the difficulties in the data collection method makes adopting the philosophy of positivism difficult in research works. The interpretivism philosophy helps to make significant observation by studying the viewpoint of the respondents that are related to the social research. In this way, the research scholar can identify the biases effects and this particular philosophy focuses on the quantitative along with the qualitative methods. Design of the research Some of the widely known or adopted research designs are exploratory, explanatory and descriptive type of designs. The explanatory design helps to realize the causes of occurrences regarding any specific phenomenon with accordance to the research topic along with predicting the future incidence of any likewise form of the phenomenon (Choy, 2014). The explanatory design of research takes in the ways that interrelate and often come together. Exploratory design of research works helps to adopt the best designs of researches and also to adopt the accurate methods for data collection and to choose the subjects. The major focus of the exploratory design of research would be on the constructing the rationale and on the problems and clarifications of the research statement along with the various concepts to examine the concepts related to the research work. On the other hand, the design of descriptive research can be stated as a combination of explanatory and exploratory research designs (Le wis, 2015). The descriptive types of researches can surly be defined as a fact that tries to establish, recognize or describe what is, while the research efforts which are analytical establishes why it has been chosen. For this particular social research the researcher has adopted the descriptive type of research as it is the combination of the advantages of two research designs and to get accurate result, the researcher has chosen the descriptive design. The chief purpose of choosing descriptive design of research is to cast light on the contemporary issues regarding the method of data collection that enables them to describe the circumstances without employing the method (Gast Ledford, 2014).The descriptive types of research works cannot take into account the specific situation causing factors. Approach of the research Inductive and deductive are the two mostly adopted research approaches. The deductive approach is dependent on the explanation of the researcher and the inductive approach is based on the formulation of new ideas along with the existing theories (Lewis, 2015). In the deductive approach the focus is on exploring new concepts or viewing previously published ideas with a new perspective. On the other hand, in the inductive approach the focus is on the quantitative data analysis and there is no presence of set rules for this. In this case, the researcher has chosen inductive approach for the research work as it would facilitate the researcher to supply accurate evidence regarding the result of the research work. Strategy of the research The research scholar will be interviewing 25 patients of the psychotherapist and also use questionnaire and conduct a stress test to get the outcome. Apart from that the researcher will depend on the various secondary data gathered from the medical journals, magazines and government websites. Target population The patients of the psychotherapist are the targeted respondents. As the psychotherapists patients are already suffering from psychological disorder regarding stress and various other issues; thus they can be perfect target population for conducting the research work. Sample size The sample size would be 25 as the target population will be the patients of the psychotherapist and there will not be enough scope to collect data from more respondents. Process of data collection The data collection processes are of two types; one is primary and the other one is secondary type of data collection. The primary type of data collection is done over face to face interviews with the respondents or by providing them with questionnaires and making surveys on a particular topic. On the other hand, as per Flick (2015), the secondary data can be gathered either from government websites, or from reputed magazines, books and journals. For this research work, the researcher has opted for primary type of data collection where he will be taking interview and also give the respondents a questionnaire to get to know their view points. Data analysis There are two basic types of data analysis one is qualitative and the other one is quantitative analysis. Qualitative data analysis can be seen as the range of procedures so that the research scholar can collect and understand the interpretations of the situations and the responses of the target population. On the other hand, quantitative data analysis is a systematic approach to investigate during the time of collection of numerical data. Quantitative analysis is to get the results; a quantitative data analysis should be done to analyze the gathered data by the researcher. Research rigour and anticipated limitations There are some limitations in this particular social research conducted by the scholar as the sample size is smaller. The researcher had to perform the tests and he collected data from the patients of the psychotherapist and he had to use the reception hall as a laboratory. Apart from that each individuals have different types of psychological problems and thus music cannot impact on every human minds in the same way. Naturally thus there are some limitations of this types of social research. Bibliography Bensimon, M., Einat, T., Gilboa, A. (2015). Touro University Worldwide Essays - Health, Psychiatry,
Touro University Worldwide Professional Ethics Signature Assignment Fall 2017-1 October 22 , 2017 Tamerla Glenn Dr. Michael Hamlin Technological advances have opened many doors for the counseling field. These innovative changes incorporated the way services and information are disseminated and retrieved by therapist and client. This paper loos at the commonly uses of communication modalities ethical issues, code of ethics, advantages, and disadvantages with online counseling. This paper also looks at the California Telemedicine Development Act of 1996. Technology has become an intricate part of our daily lives. Computers and cell phones are tools utilized by many in homes, the workplace and have become valuable in the field of counseling. In today's society therapist are working in multiple locations, and experiencing extensive travel time to client locations. With the expanding growth and convenience of the Internet, many are wondering if online will replace traditional face-to-face encounters (Wilczenski Coomey, 2006). Technological advances have opened many doors for the counseling field, many mental health practitioners rely on computers and the Internet for some aspects of their work including e-mail, chat rooms and video conference. These innovative changes incorporate the way services and information are disseminated and retrieved by practitioners and client. Today an individual can receive therapy-related services via the Internet, these services are known by a variety of names. including e-therapy, e-counseling, cyber- counseling, web counseling and online counseling (Wilczenski Coomey, 2006). Online counseling is described as the process of interacting with a practitioner via the internet using an electric means of communication. E-mail, chat room, telephone, and video conference all play a major role in providing reliable services to clients; these modalities offer an alternative communication between practitioner and client. E-mail is the simplest method of communication and does not require an appointment when used during online counseling. The client sends an email with specific question and the practitioners to work with client using real-time communication. Chat room delivers immediate feedback between client and practitioner with no delay between response times (Sussman, 2004). The cell phone has become accepted as an effective communication tool, it is convenience for consultation, crisis intervention, and assessment. Although, body language is absent, during the conversation, the communication is much more intense, and to the point (Sussman, 2004). Mental health practitioners must be skilled and flexible to respond to the growing demand. Clients are reaching out for help via the Internet employing e-mail, chat rooms, and video conferences. Oravec (2000) describes an occasion in which the Internet was utilized for therapy by an individual suffering from depression from the unexpected news that her husband was diagnosed with cancer. As the husband condition deteriorated the wife found herself searching the Internet for the support in dealing with her husband's illness. The Internet proved to be a valuable tool during the crisis. Online counseling provided an outlet to manage her depression and offered support with her husband illness. Although online counseling possesses some benefits, several limitations can hinder individuals who choose to use these services. Sussman (2004) believes there are many advantages to online counseling and any issues can be resolved. Online counseling provides access to individuals in isolated and under-served areas. those that are physically disabled or ill, and individuals who are unwilling to seek face-to-face service. Individuals taking care of a sick relative or child would not have to make arrangements to travel to an office; services will be readily available from the home. Practitioners have access to a larger database of potential clients, develop a more specialized practice and have flexibility to their work schedule. An additional advantage, the entire session is persevered electronically, which will benefit from online counseling, it is not for everyone and should not be a substitute for traditional face-to-face counseling. Several disadvantages have also been noted by (Centore Milacci, 2008). A potential for miscommunication can occur because of nonverbal cues, which can make it difficult assessing the client. Practitioners cannot ensure confidentially and privacy, email communication can be intercepted by a third party or hackers. It can be difficult for a practitioner to intervene in an emergency situation and the misrepresentation by practitioners and clients is also a major concern. According to Heinlein, Welfel, Richmond, Rak (2003), although technological

ATM Skimmers Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
ATM Skimmers - Article Example The device is used for reading the magnetic strip of the ATM card; when the user passes the ATM card through the slot, unknowingly. These devices are usually used together with a miniature camera; that is attached to the ATM, and is used for reading the pin of the user. Another ATM skimming technique entails the criminals using a keypad overlay, which is similar to the legitimate ATM keypad, below it. When the customer operates the ATM machine, the fake keypad overlay is pressed, and the fake keypad records and wirelessly transmits key log details of the entered PIN. The device or devices illegally installed on the ATM are also referred to as skimmer (Hassibi, 2010). Recently installed ATMs have a picture of the genuine slot and keypad. This will effectively enable the consumers to detect attached foreign devices. The consumers should report detection of foreign devices attached on ATM to law enforcement officers or the financial services provider. Financial regulators must strive to minimize ATM skimming, so as to minimize financial losses and legal suits by affected consumers. This can be done through applying sophisticated algorithms to study the patterns of fraud. Financial services providers must also ensure the physical and technological security of their ATM

Leisure and Recreation in Action Essay Example for Free
Leisure and Recreation in Action Essay Unit 6: Leisure and Recreation in action is a mandatory part of my AVCE Leisure and Recreation Course. This unit includes planning, organising and hosting a leisure and recreation event. We found out at the end of July 2005 that we were going to have to hold an event for a certain customer group. We would have to decide on this customer group and then brainstorm some ideas for events that we could organise for them. Once we have done this we will have to make a business plan and present it to school officials. Then we would also have to think of advertising the event. Our first meeting included brainstorming different ideas for the event that we could organise. Below is a copy of this brainstorm. Once we had brainstormed the event we wrote down our ideas and put them into a tally table. Once we had done this we went round different classes around the school and asked which event they would prefer to go on. It turned out that the preferred event would be to go to an England football match. We thought that this event would be quite easy to organise, as there were 2 England World Cup qualifier matches coming up. We tried to order the tickets for both of the upcoming matches but found out that our request would be put into a ballot as there were many different groups of people who wanted to go to these matches. We wouldnt find out if we had succeeded in getting the tickets until 6 weeks before each match. This was a problem, as we would have had to rush organising the rest of the event. E.g. Transport, Customers. We were unsuccessful in getting tickets to either of the matches. This was a blow to us because we had designed posters and already done some organising. We had to decide on another event that would be quite easy and quick to organise. Read more:à When Leisure is Defined as Recreational Activity We decided to organise and host a Senior Citizen Christmas Lunch, as it was near to Christmas. We decided on our customers because we decided that the senior citizens of Darlaston had done a lot for our community, and we wanted to give them something back for their help and support. Our customers would also be ex-employees of our school. This wasnt even in our list of brainstormed ideas, but with a little help we thought of it. First we had to come up with aims and objectives for our event, and also all other details. We decided on the aims and objectives by thinking about the customers wants and needs and also our own. This included finding a venue for the event, finding out if the Senior Citizens would want to come to our event and other aspects such as our budget. We had to consider our budget as we would have to provide the Senior Citizens with a high standard of cuisine, and also provide them with entertainment and make their time with us enjoyable. We found out that the school wouldnt be able to provide all of our funds for the event, so we had to find a way of making enough money to pay for it. We came up with a number of ideas such as bag packing at ASDA, Football Cards; Guess the number of sweets in a jar and to hold a football tournament. We decided to do the football card because the other ideas would take a while to conduct and also host. The football card was really successful. We had 48 teams and people paid à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½1 for a team name, a team name was then picked out of a hat by an unbiased volunteer, and the person who had the name of the team picked out won à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½10. From this fund raiser we made à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½38. This was enough to pay for some of the shopping for the event. On our second meeting we had to decide on committee roles for each member of our group. We decided on these roles by looking at everyones strengths and weaknesses. These roles are listed below: * Chairperson Mathew Bayley. As the chairperson Mathew would have to make sure that everyone was doing their jobs right, and if they werent then they would have to tell them to try harder. We selected Mathew for this role as he is a strong minded person who everyone listens to * Secretary Krystle Larkin. As the secretary Krystle takes down notes from each of our meetings and turns them into minutes, then she gives them to us as soon as possible so we know what our weekly jobs are. We selected Krystle for this role as she is the most organised person of the group * Treasurer Ben Hall. As the treasurer Ben looks after all of our funds and receipts. We selected Ben for this job as he is good with money and knows how to budget money * Marketing Person Donna Hawkins. As the marketing person it is my job to market the event through invitations and/or posters. I was selected for this job as I have done marketing for 1 year in business and am also quite creative * Staffing/Human Resources Leigh Griffiths. As the person in charge of staffing it is Leighs job to recruit more staff members if we need them. Leigh was selected for this job as he is quite persuasive and also good at deciding on good workers with good character * Health and Safety Matthew Bray. As the health and Safety person it is Matthews job to do a risk assessment of the event. Matthew was selected for this job as he is good at finding out what problems could occur during events We had a good marketing structure which meant we were all on the same level as each other and we were all given fair shares of the jobs. Our management structure is below. I think that the group worked really well together, although there were a few problems along the way. We worked well throughout communication, although because of the stress of organising our event we did argue quite a lot. Mathew Bayley coped really well being our leader. He managed to keep us on track with all of our work and also our set tasks. We interacted well with each other, keeping each other informed on how well we were getting on with our jobs and tasks. There was some tension between myself and Krystle, because we kept getting in each others way and taking over each others jobs. But overall, we worked really well together. As a team we really enjoyed planning and organising the event. Until the day of the event we helped each other with our tasks and also with any problems that occurred with the tasks that we were set. We managed to keep out of each others way most of the time, although there were a few problems and hiccups during the planning and organising of the event. However, apart from the few problems that occurred we all worked well together. Moxhull Hall Hotel I think that our visit to Moxhull Hall Hotel went really well. We had to dress smart to make a good impression on Andreas, the manager, and the rest of his staff at the hotel. We learnt a lot off the chefs at the Hotel, than if we had of prepared meals ourselves. On 7th December 2005 at 11.30am we travelled to Moxhull Hall Hotel. This visit was to help us learn to set up covers and serve our guests properly and also how to prepare food properly. Our group was split up into two teams. These were the front of house team and the catering team. My team (the catering team) were taken into the kitchens and the front of house team was taken into one of the restaurants. First we had to get acquainted with the members of staff who would be helping us. There was John and Neil, the two chefs. They then split us up into two teams of four. One of the teams went with John, whilst my team stayed with Neil. We were allocated different jobs. I had to mix up the flour, butter and sugar to make the dough for the mince pies that we were going to cook. My group also had to make a salad, potato salad and also coleslaw. We had to chop up the vegetables from fresh and then mix them up with mayonnaise to make the coleslaw and potato salad. We had cooked this meal for our and the rest of the groups lunch. Once we had finished cooking for the group we then had to clean the side units and table tops that we had gotten dirty whilst preparing the food. The day of the event We started the day of the event by meeting up at our school at 8.15 and collected all of the equipment and accessories that we needed. We then walked up to the venue of our event and started to set up our equipment. The front of house staff set up the main hall and the kitchen staff, which consisted of me, Matthew Bray, Leigh Griffiths and 2 other helpers from a year 11 leisure and tourism class, went into the kitchen to set up. We took all of the food into the kitchen and started to prepare the food. We all washed our hands first and also washed up the saucepans and cooking utensils that we would need. I had to prepare the parsnips, while Matthew and Leigh prepared the carrots. Reagan and Emily prepared the sprouts whilst Mrs Lavender prepared the potatoes. Below is a photograph of me peeling the parsnips After we had prepared the food and put it on the stoves to cook we had to tidy up and clean the sides. We also had to set out the small plates for the starter. We decided to do a prawn cocktail for the started and while the main course was cooking I prepared the prawns whilst the others tidied up and washed up any bowls and cutlery we had used. Below is a photograph of me preparing the prawns After preparing the prawns and setting them out on the plates the front of house staff came through to collect the starters and serve them to our guests. When our guests had finished eating the plates were brought back in and the main meal was served. It was my job to serve the sprouts, as the picture at the side shows. Once the plates had been taken out then we had to wash up the starter plates and prepare the desert. Because 2 of our guests were diabetic we couldnt serve them the traditional dessert of Christmas pudding and custard, so we served them a variety of cheese and biscuits instead. Once all of the food had been served the washing up and clearing away had to be done. This was done whilst the front of house staff were setting up the entertainment equipment. The washing up and cleaning away was done by all of us in turn. Below is a photo of me cleaning the sides of the kitchen Once all of the cleaning and washing up had been completed we had to go and get changed into our front of house uniforms. We did this because we were going out the front to the guests to help with the entertainment. Below is a picture of me in my front of house uniform Our first lot of entertainment was a few games of bingo. Ben was the caller for the bingo, and the rest of us helped our guests with the games. After the games of bingo we had a few different quizzes that some of the group had composed. These were played in teams of two. After the quizzes had been completed we then played a game of catchphrase, which was performed by Leigh and Ben. The quizzes and the bingo went down really well with the senior citizens, as did the game of catchphrase. After the entertainment was finished it was time for the guests to go home. While Mathew Bayley and Leigh were seeing the guests out the rest of us started tidying away the tables and chairs and all of the equipment that we had used. This took about 20 minutes to do. Afterwards we had to take all of the equipment back to the school and pack it all away. Overall the day went extremely well. There were a few problems, such as 2 people turning up early and uninvited. Also the cooking utensils from the venue went missing, so I had to go home to get some from my house that we could use. All of the entertainment went down well and the meal was enjoyed by all of the senior citizens. The atmosphere of the venue was really good and Christmassy too, which made us and the guests feel good about ourselves, and also really happy with each other. This made us better people to be around and we worked better together because of this. Improvements If we were to do this event again then I would recommend making some improvements. We would have to make sure that people didnt turn up uninvited. Because of this we had to make room for extra people and also share the food out more than we thought we would have to. I also think that we could have made more money from the fund raising. We could do two fund raising events to make double the amount of money so we dont have to struggle so much keeping within our budget. I also think that we could improve the attitudes of the extra staff that we recruited. The year 11s that worked in the kitchen didnt pull their weight and they stopped working for a chat at anytime they could. We had to keep telling them to get back to work. I think that we could split them up and make them work with one of our group to keep them in check and stop them from slacking off. I also think that we could improve the running smoothness of the quizzes. We did have 4 quizzes, so we had to do them quickly. However, some of the guests thought that the quizzes were read out too slow and the others thought that the quizzes were read out too fast. We could improve this by practising how to read out loud to guests properly. I think that we could also use a bigger venue. Everyone did seem quite cramped up and there was not much room to move about in the kitchen area either. The kitchen was small and there were 6 people in there all together. This made it very cramped and quite uncomfortable for us to work in. I think that we should also only have 2 courses instead of 3 if we do the event again. Originally we had only planned to do two courses, but the manager of Moxhull Hall Hotel gave us some prawns to make a starter as he knew our budget was limited. We thought that this was a nice gesture, but we should have checked if any of our guests were allergic to seafood. It turned out that one of our guests was allergic to seafood, so she didnt get to have starter. She did state on her invitation reply that she was allergic to seafood but they werent checked properly, so in future we would have to make sure that we checked the invitations more than once. I think that the project was successful. We kept to our objectives throughout the planning the event and also conducting it. We worked well as a team throughout the event, with only a few arguments occurring. We found solutions to possible problems, such as the arguments and also problems with decorating the venue. We provided our guests with a high standard of cuisine and entertainment. We know this from the witness statements that they produced for us. We all enjoyed the experience and we provided the elderly with a memorable event. We know that we enjoyed it from talking to each other and finding out what we thought went good and bad on the day. We know that our extra staff enjoyed themselves too, as we found out when we questioned them about it. We know that our guests enjoyed the experience from the positive comments we had, witness statements, our guests facial expressions on the video and also one of the guests took the time to write in to the local newspaper about how much she enjoyed the event. This statement was sent into the newspaper by Mrs Doris Robertson. These are all included in my work. We came in on budget, but we had to keep things to a minimum and also add a few extra pounds ourselves to buy the prizes for the quizzes. I think that if this event is done again then more fund raising could be done. This way products will be brought comfortably without any worry of not having enough money to buy the necessities for the meal. Customers were satisfied with the event and we have the proof of this from witness statements. Such quotes include very polite, willing and helpful. All cheerful and pleasant and also very good meal efficient service all round. The ambience of the venue worked really well with event. We made the venue look Christmassy by putting up decorations and we also played Christmas music into the hall where the meal was to be served. All of the front of house staff were dressed professionally in black trousers, white blouse/shirt and a black bow tie. Once the kitchen staff came out, we also changed into smart, professional clothing. Good things of the event included: * Making the senior citizens happy and cheerful * Giving ourselves the satisfaction of making other people happy * Everything running quite smooth * Positive feedback from the guests and members of staff Bad things of the event included: * Venue being too small * Extra people turning up * One member of the kitchen team turned up late * I had to go home to get some cooking utensils as the ones from the venue were missing

Community Service Essay -- Humanitarian Organizations Essays
Community Service People complain everyday about the problems in this world. One of my complaints is about people who complain! I have a high respect for those who take actions to try to solve these problems. One major group which has to solve problems this is internationally recognized is Rotary International. Another group with similar goals is The Ruritan Foundation. Both of these groups have a website used by people all over the world to communicate information about their organization and how people can get involved. Ruritan focuses on the loval community and serving on a much smaller scale than Rotary. For Rotary, an overall emphasis is made on international service needs and diversity among people, as well as advancing global awareness about issues. There are more ignorant people out there than you may think. According to the main website, www.rotary.org., "Rotary International is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ehtical standards in all vocations, and help huild good will and peace in the world." Rotarians devote their lives so much to humanity that its motto is "Service before Self,"by service and helping others and ultimately, in a utopian world, accomplishing peace, in daily personal lives as well as while working on Rotary-specific projects (About Rotary). You may be asking what types of concerns this association cares about. According to the "About Rotary" section of the website, they address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracu, and violence, to name a few. Getting involved in a particular area of concern would not be a s... ...s website in that it contains a list of links on the left side to investigate differnt aspects of the organization. The webpage is not as formal as that of Rotary International, but still is not necessary that it is. The differences between Ruritan Foundation and Rotary International actually complement each other. while Ruritan focuses on the local community and serving its needs, Rotary has world-wide perspective on similar issues. Information for prospective members is also a crucial objective of these websites since they are target readers. People who are too stagnate to follow through with their altruistic desires can at least donate money to the people who take action on their calling to kindness. The Rotary and Ruritan organizations relate to almost all people in this world, whether a member, donating, or receiving care; everyone can benefit.

Lorex Pharmaceuticals
The Case: Lorex Pharmaceuticals has come up with a new product, Litanol. This medicine seems to have a high potential which is developed for the treatment of high blood pressure. Company has come up with a manufacturing line and production is supposed to be begin next Monday. Following points are considered while analyzing the case: 1. The marketing team has decided to sell Litanol in sealed 10-ounce bottles, packaged in cases of 12 bottles each with a wholesale price of $186 per case. 2.The production capacity is 1000 bottles per case but due to certain unavoidable reasons, Lorex is producing Litanol at an average of 500 cases over an eight-hour shift. 3. The entire line was operated by two employees who are paid $12. 80 per hour. 4. Other charges include $89. 50 per hour for overhead and filling $1. 10 per bottle. 5. Bottles filled with less than 10 ounce are rejected and sold for 80% of normal price. 6. Attendants for secondary packaging are paid $8. 50 per hour. 7. A sample of fi lling process and test results is given in exhibit 2, with target of 10. fluid ounces. 8. The cost details from exhibit 1 are used to guesstimate for cost of other predicted samples (10. 3, 10. 4, 10. 5 and 10. 6 ounce samples). The issue: Recently, there was a case of clogging of storage area for underfilled bottles due to unexpected under filling. This was apparently because of one standard deviation allowed above required amount of 10 ounce. Alternatives: 1. We can revise the filling target from 10. 2 to reduce the no of under filled bottles without compromising on the gross margins. Various filling targets have been worked out on the next page 2.We can speculate the no of under filled bottles by studying the probability of occurrence of under filling for a period. Accordingly the storage area evacuation may be scheduled to avoid clogging Analysis: Lets assume the standard deviation to be same (0. 16) for all filling targets. This is justified because Std Dev measures the inaccur acy level of the filling machine which will remain same regardless of the filling targets. Below is the analysis and calculation showing different gross margins for different filling targets.

My First Child
I walked through the doors of Moses Taylor hospital, In Scranton, Pennsylvania. I was feeling apprehensive and uneasy, as I found myself at the nurses' station of labor and delivery. Once I was finished with registration, I followed a nurse into the dusty rose and moss green room, where I would be staying until the much anticipated arrival of my child. I tried to keep myself occupied by watching television, reading, and doing crossword puzzles, but nothing could have kept me from feeling the excruciating pain of labor. The eagerness to have this all over and done with, was definitely not helping with the anxiety I was feeling during that process. After 22 grueling and strenuous hours of being stuck In a bed, and three different shifts of nurses, I finally met my daughter. Friday morning, at 4:mama, the sky was dark and cloudy, and the moment I had been anxiously awaiting for nine and a half long months, was here at last. Everyone in the room got very quiet as my child entered the wor ld. I was very confused as to why I had not heard any sounds coming from her and it began to worry me. The moment I heard her cry, I new everything was going to be okay. Oh! She Is absolutely breath-taking,â⬠I exclaimed as Dry. Reedy placed the Innocent child on my chest. Just as I said that, a tiny hand reached up and touched my face. I braced myself against the back of the bed; I could hardly contain my excitement as I held my daughter in my arms for the very first time. I could smell the sweet, inviting aroma and feel the velvety softness of her skin. Nothing in life had prepared me for the overwhelming love I felt at that moment. I looked over at my child's father; while fighting back the Inevitable tears of Joy that ere making their way Into my eyes, and I stated. Frank, look at how perfect she SSL Look at her tiny little nose. â⬠I can still remember the first time I set eyes on her. She was naked, and glistening with the slimy waters of birth. As the nurse removed her from my arms, to clean and weigh her, I could not take my eyes off my little miracle. The instant I saw her, I knew the name we had chosen would fit her beautifully. The nurse, wearing arctic white Nikkei sneakers and soft pink scrubs with a cute little Winnie the Pooh pattern on them, handed my daughter back to me. She was wrapped In an Ivory blanket, with baby blue and cherry red Infant foot prints on It.Nurse Lori began filling out my child's vital statistics, ââ¬Å"She is seven pounds and fifteen ounces and 20 inches long. Have you decided on a name for her yet? â⬠ââ¬Å"Aubrey. â⬠I answered. ââ¬Å"Aubrey Grace. â⬠Lori commented, ââ¬Å"What a great name for such a beautiful child. Congratulations! â⬠ââ¬Å"Thank you,â⬠I replied. The next few hours were filled with visitors coming to welcome Aubrey Into the world. Aubrey met her aunts, uncles, grandparents, and Godparents all in the course of a day. Aubrey started getting over-whelmed with all of the commotion around her. WA! â⬠cried Aubrey, as she let out this tiny little cry. I tried to console her as best as I could, and eventually found that she was hungry. I quickly grabbed the bottle of Gerber formula for her. As I held my tiny bundle of Joy in my arms, I could see a lonesome tear run down my mother's cheek. When I knew exactly why my mother was crying. They were not tears filled with sadness, but were tears of Joy. My mother helped me through so much in my life, and I never understood the love she had for me until I finally had a child of my own.

The Autism In Children Psychology Essay Essays
The Autism In Children Psychology Essay Essays The Autism In Children Psychology Essay Essay The Autism In Children Psychology Essay Essay Autism spectrum upsets are common neurodevelopment upsets that occur along a wide continuum of badness with damages in societal interactions, communicating and behaviour ( Caronna, Jun 2008 ) . No two people will see the same symptoms. Symptoms will get down to look by the age of 3 and last throughout a individual s life. Surveies have shown that autism is more common in male childs than misss. The figure of kids diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder has increased dramatically in the last 20 old ages. Parents of kids with autism experience a assortment of chronic and acute stressors that can gnaw matrimonial satisfaction and household ( Solomon, June 2012 ) As per the Centers for Disease control and Prevention about 1 in 8 kids have been identified with autism spectrum upset ( ASD ) harmonizing to the estimations from CDC s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring ( ADDM ) Network. It is estimated that 1 in 6 kids in the U.S. had a developmental disablement in 2006-2008 ranging from mild disablements such as address and linguistic communication damages to serious developmental disablements, such as rational disablements, intellectual paralysis, and autism . There is no sort of medical test that can observe that the kid has autism. Parents need to be argus-eyed and expression for the symptoms and seek medical attending. There are some instances where parents have been able to place the symptoms every bit early as 18 months. Peoples with autism will demo three types of symptoms: impaired societal interaction, jobs with verbal and gestural communicating, and unusual or badly limited activities and involvements. It affects the individual s societal communicating and creates behavior challenges. Peoples with autism procedure information in their encephalon otherwise than that of a non autistic person. Autism affects each individual otherwise when symptoms start to look, scope in badness, and exact nature of symptoms. One of the three symptoms is impaired societal interaction. Peoples with autism withdraw from interacting with other people they will demo marks they are non interested in other people s conversations. They may besides handle others like objects with no sort of feeling or earnestness. A kid with autism will happen it difficult to grok other people s feelings. It is common among household members who interact with a kid with autism notice that there is small oculus contact or they avoid oculus contact. Recently parents are bettering their accomplishments in placing marks of autism at an early age versus disregarding the marks. The oculus contact if presumptively the first and best manner to get down observing something is traveling on and something is non right. Common pattern for persons with this sort of symptom is forbearance. I have talked to different twosomes who have kids with autism and I asked them their overall experience in holding a kid with autism and all have mentioned t hat it takes forbearance. Patience is the best pattern because they will hold to reiterate the directing several times before their small encephalon registry what is being said even though subsequently on they will bury. As a prevalent symptom that exists in autism is verbal and non verbal communicating. Depending on the badness of autism, the more affected are a individual s communicating accomplishments. Persons with autism will often double words or phrases they hear in which this is besides known as echolalia. Equally early as six months most parents should be able to detect symptoms because babes tend to babble and do noises. Language development will be slow or non develop at all. Peoples with autism can non and will non be able to get down a one to one conversation with person else. As a pick of words they will pass on with gestures. They will besides be delayed or lose their address if they are non diagnosed early and take preventative steps. Persons with autism have heightened or low sense of sight, hearing, touch, odor, or gustatory sensation. Normal noises will be painful for them to digest they will normally keep their custodies over their ears. They may besides exhibit symptoms of unusua l behaviour. Learning to make things may be unpredictable for them. Bing aggressive with themselves and others is common among kids with autism. Playing with other kids is really limited and they show no involvement they are withdrawn from society. Another interesting thing I learned from one of the twosomes is that since their kid was diagnosed with autism they made societal events, tallies, walks, parties, Parkss, menagerie s, art categories, karate, etc. a portion of his life. They have truly seen a difference in his function playing with other kids and his behaviour with other kids. Autism has affected many persons and households in many different ways. It is of import to guarantee that these immature kids receive direct instruction in communicating and linguistic communication, societal apprehension and accomplishments, every bit good as larning with and through equals ( Guldberg, 2010 ) . Educating and taking preventative steps that need to be assessed in order to help them in their day-to-day and long term lives. The present survey examined the positive experiences of parents raising school-aged kids with autism within the context of rearing emphasis. Materials and Methods Participants included 23 mother/father braces raising kids with autism ( ages 5 to 11 old ages, M = 7.39 ) . Parents completed steps of rearing emphasis and positive experiences of raising their kids. Consequences Consistent with old research in a pre-school elderly population of kids with autism, female parents reported significantly more positive experiences than did male parents. ( Kayfi tz A ; Gragg, 2010 ) . In what I have read and talked to other parents about autism I can genuinely hold with this survey because the female parents are the advocators for kids no affair what sort of unwellness or disablement they have been diagnosed with. Diagnosing them at an early age of their lives is the best manner to go familiar with the disablement. Becoming familiar with the disablement such as reading literature, go toing conferences, and seminars will assist you how to larn to populate with the disablement. In reading and going familiar with the disablement I have learned a batch. If I was the 1 with the disablement I know for certain I would divide my ego from others. I have this job already. I know it would be difficult for me and my parents but this universe of darkness as a kid is the hardest. Functioning as a kid with autism would hold been difficult back. I do nt believe my parents would understand. I know they would likely state I am merely being amusing when the interior of me can non do them understand. My attitude towards life would be happy because I know I am one non to give up. As I would acquire older I will more than probably make my ain research and advocator for my ego and others. As for relationships I would truly desire to seek to get down relationship with friends and take it from at that place. My accomplishments would be completing high school, choosing a college and in my bosom I know I would choose rehabilitative services. This would be the perfect chance for me to go familiar with rights, Torahs, protagonism, equal groups and all other plans they offer. After going familiar with it I would fall in groups, advocator and possibly go talker at my local college and allow. people know that we are normal merely like everyone else and to give up and all we need is people to be patient with us.

How You Can Pick the Best SAT Test Locations
How You Can Pick the Best SAT Test Locations SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips It may seem like there's not a lot you can do, besides studying, to improve your mental state on the day of the SAT. But there are a few key things that can make a huge difference, and one of them is where you take the test. Why does what SAT test center you choose matter so much? Well, your brain can only focus on math, reading, and writing when everything else is out of the way, and a lot of things that can get in the way have to do with logistics and environment. In this article, we'll discuss the two ways of finding convenient locations for taking the SAT. Where Can I Find the SAT Testing Centers? There are two ways to find SAT test centers. The first is more convenient but more limited, and the second is inconvenient but gives you clearer information. Option 1: Search SAT Testing Centers by State Visit this page for a search form:http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/test-center-code-search I recommend that you choose only the state and don't type in a city. (When you type a city, the site finds SAT test locations in only that city and doesn't include locations in nearby towns). Instead, choose the state, then browse for cities that are close to you. This screen shows the first two SAT centersin Massachusetts that begin with ââ¬Å"Aâ⬠for the October 2017 SAT test date. The drawbacks to this search method is that you can't search for test centers close to you but in different cities. Furthermore, this doesn't tell you whether these test locations will administer the test on the date that you're planning to take the test, or whether all seats have been taken. The next method solves both these problems. Option 2: Search for SAT Test Centers by Zip Code To find test centers closest to you by zip code, you have to start to register for the test. You don't actually have to complete registration. This method is more cumbersome but also more informative. First, visit this page, and then click "Register for the SAT." After logging in, you'll be taken to your "My SAT" page, which has a blue button labeled "Register for the SAT" on the righthand side. Once you click that button, you'll be taken to a test registration screen. You'll first have to fill out a page with your personal information (including what test date you want). You'll then be able to skip through a number of forms asking for information about your high school experience (no need to put that in now). Finally, you'll end up at section 3, "Select Test Center" At the bottom of this page, you'll see a "search by Zip code" option: This screen gives you a lot more information. First, I can see that SAT testing locations that normally administer the test don't happen to be administering this specific test. If one of these were my high school, I would suddenly have to change my plans. Secondly, there are only a limited number of seats at each location. If you register too late, you can run out. You can see that this method of search is more helpful. Why doesn't the College Board make this more informative option available publicly? Sometimes you have to wonder whether the College Board just likes making things more difficult for families. Which SAT Test Location Should I Choose? Your best choice of test location depends on a few important factors, in order of importance: How far is it, and how long does it take to travel? How familiar are you with the location and layout? Will you know other people at that location? Will that improve or worsen your performance? Are there known problems about the test center that make it problematic? We'll cover each in order. #1: How Far Is It? How Long Does It Take to Get There? The number one issue regarding test location is timing. You want to get there on timethe College Board recommends arriving at the test center no later than 7:45 a.m., unless the Admission Ticket says otherwise. This typically means you'll need to wake up early, maybe earlier than you're used to. For example, if it takes you an hour to drive to the test location, youââ¬â¢ll likely need to wake up around 6AM to have enough time to get energized, eat breakfast, and arrive at the site with time to spare. Keep in mind that the longer it takes to get there, the longer the delay might be. A 10 minute drive might be delayed only by 5 minutes, but a 60 minute drive can be delayed by 30 minutes. Recommendation:Generally try to choose locations that are closer to where you live. #2: How Familiar Are You With the Location and Layout? On the day of the test, you want as little stress as possible so you can fully concentrate on the test. If you've traveled to the location before, then chances are much lower that you'll get confused by directions or run into unexpected construction. On the other hand, traveling to an unfamiliar location might cause you to be stressed, which might not wear off until well into the test. Similarly, knowing the layout of the location is helpful during bathroom breaks. Because you only get a few minutes to use the bathroom and eat a snack, getting lost in the hallways can be anxiety-provoking. Because test centers often don't provide clear signs to the bathroom and back to the classroom, it's possible to lose your way. Recommendation: Choose a location that youââ¬â¢re familiar with, both in travel and layout. If you must choose an unfamiliar location, visit it to get familiar with it, or budget extra time the day of the test to get there earlier and learn the layout. #3: Will You Know Other People at That Location? If you choose your local high school like most students, youââ¬â¢ll likely run into a lot of people you know. Depending on what type of person you are, this can be a good or bad thing. To some, being around friends is helpful. It relieves stress, and chatting during breaks helps them feel less nervous about the importance of the test. To these people, going to an unfamiliar location with strangers actually causes more anxiety and puts them on edge. To others, the opposite is true - being around friends for the SAT is more stressful than being around strangers. You might want as little distraction as possible, and talking to your friends might make you lose concentration You want to relax silently during breaks, but you donââ¬â¢t want to give the impression that youââ¬â¢re rudely brushing off your friends. Plus, what if you take the test in the same room as your crush? It might be hard to take the test with the person close by. Which group do you fit into? Each person is different, so decide accordingly. Recommendation: If being around friends on test day is helpful, register at your high school. If itââ¬â¢s stressful, register elsewhere, keeping in mind the location and layout factors above. #4: Are You Aware of Issues With the Test Center? You'll usually be able to predict problems only if you're taking the test at your high school. Here are problems that you should think about: Temperature control: do you know if the location can maintain a temperature thatââ¬â¢s comfortable for you? Or are the thermostats always malfunctioning? Windows: do you tend to feel claustrophobic in this location, and might the presence of windows help you relax? Testing environment: do you know if the location has noises, smells, or other factors that might be distracting? Maybe the desks tend to be uneven, or the chairs uncomfortable? Recommendation: Avoid testing centers with known problems. For most students, they'll take the SAT at their high school, if possible. But this isn't always the best option. Should I Take the SAT At My High School? Most students, if given the choice, take the SAT at their high school. While this does give you automatic familiarity with the building(s) and how to get there, it can have significant mental downsides. You should NOT take the SAT at your high school if: Seeing people you know causes you more stress or makes you break concentration. There's another location that's significantly closer to your home. If you can save 10 minutes or more of travel time, this can be worth it. You already know of problems at your high school, like a nearby construction project. Being in the same environment as where you spend most of your day causes you to lose focus or doze off. I feel strongly about this topic because it made a huge difference for me. When I took my second SAT, all the slots at my high school were full, so I chose a high school about 30 minutes away. The drive was relaxing, and it felt totally neutral, a buffer between the SAT and the rest of my life. My test location didn't feel like school; it was a big concrete building and nothing was familiar, so my mind was a blank slate. The previous year, I'd scored a 1440 (of 1600) on the SAT I took at my own high school. I didn't do any prep between the two SATs I took, but on the test I took half an hour away, I got a perfect score. 5 SAT Test Location Tips #1: Check Your Messages for Cancellation Notifications Read all your mail and email in the weeks leading up to the test.If your test center is canceled for your test date, this is how you will be notified and given an alternative.Your test center might be canceled for a number of reasons. One possible cancellation happens when too few students sign up to test there. If that, or anything else they control, changes, you will be notified and given an alternative. They also cancel locations where weather makes it dangerous for students to travel. In these cases, the cancellation will be announced on Friday night and Saturday morning on this website. #2: Pre-Visit the Test Center If you're registering in an unfamiliar location, consider visiting it days before the test. This will make sure you've traveled the route once before. You can also check out the facilities and environment so you have an idea of what to expect. #3: Structure Your Travel Time If your SAT test center is close by, then great! You'll be able to take more time to sleep and won't have as much time to stress on your way there. If you have to travel 30 minutes or more to get to your SAT test location, though, you might end up wasting the whole trip fretting about the test without actually accomplishing anything. Instead of giving into anxiety, take these three actions: Pack a breakfast to eat on the way there. This can save you some time so you don't have to wake up extra early. Because the ride is long, you have more opportunities to feel anxious. Pack along music that relaxes you and makes you feel confident. Try to review notes on your way there. Modern Europe Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Modern Europe - Research Paper Example The issue of whether or not the NATO is still a relevant organization can be resolved by assessing the organizationââ¬â¢s ability to protect and ensure security and peace when it is most needed. With the global reach of activities which disturb the peace and security, the efficacy of the NATO seems to depend on the degree to which a more extensive application of its overall goals can be established and supported (Michta, 2007). Even as the NATO is considered an organization of equal states (with equal authority) who apply a consensus in their decision-making processes, the organization seems to function based on the extent of United States participation in these decisions. The security policy objectives of the US are important policies for the NATO (Michta, 2007). Its future efficacy largely depends on whether the European members will consider sharing common priorities with the Americans and whether these members will accept the related risks to such sharing. In the contemporary scene, it is important to consider the extent to which NATO supports such goals and the extent to which it has failed. NATOââ¬â¢s current dilemma exemplifies the looming issues in the current operations, mostly in the continuing armed issues with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. (Michta, 2007). The questions on NATOââ¬â¢s efficacy come from its failure to implement similar expansion activities it implemented during the 1990s in terms of military capability. Such a failure also comes from the missed opportunities after the September 11 attacks and the intercontinental political gaps over Iraq. Despite the shared contempt for any and all terrorist attacks, the US and the European states have still not agreed on how to respond to terrorist and other forms of attacks (Daalder and Oââ¬â¢Haanlon, 2001). Attempts to resolve these differences in perceptions have not been successful. As a result, countries like France, Germany, and other European states still have differing opinions with the US in terms of methods which address the terrorist issue and other securi ty problems. The NATO is currently unstable because the end of the Cold War threat in the 1990s caused a gridlock on what the organizationââ¬â¢s main mission should then be (The Economist, 2011). NATO established that it needed to consider partnerships, expansions, and enhancement of capabilities; however, the organization cannot seem to act as a united organization in terms of what its main security mission today is. The visions for NATO seem to be competing with each other, and these competing visions are not likely to be settled or resolved via the Continental security approach being advocated by France, Belgium and Germany (Michta, 2007). While the European members have supported NATOââ¬â¢s operations, the scope and the quality of the missions seems to be vague. Moreover, the EUââ¬â¢s goals to establish the European Security and Defense Policy have also impacted on the NATOââ¬â¢

Development during Middle Age Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Development during Middle Age - Essay Example As middle age is considered as the age of wisdom, emotional stability and social acceptance of an individual, the theories possess ample importance on human psychology and physiology. Here, an attempt is to assess the validity of foretold theories by analyzing the findings related to an interview with two middle-aged individuals. As it is not fair to disclose the identity of interviewees who co-operated with the interview, imaginary names and professions are used. The first person is George Thomas, my friend, a doctor and the second person is John Mackenzie, my relative, a professor of English Language & Literature. Louise Simmers makes clear that middle age shows emotional change and it may be either a period of satisfaction or crisis (Simmers, 2003, p. 197). Related to the theories of Erikson, Vaillant, Levinson, and Peck, which deals with the socio-emotional, physical, and cognitive development of middle-aged people, a questionnaire (see appendix-1) was prepared including fifteen questions that can be answered as yes /no. Then I informed them that they do have the right to refuse to answer any question posed to them. This helped the respondents to have a clear idea about the aim of the interview. The following part deals with the data manipulation and findings derived from the foretold interview. According to Erikson, there exist a conflict between generativity and stagnation among the middle-aged individuals. Neil J. Smelser & Erik H. Erikson concludes that: ââ¬Å"Speaking of middle age, Erikson describes even generativity in terms of ego.â⬠(Smelser & Erikson, 1980, p. 161)Erikson deals with problems of middle-aged people and describes generativity by relating it to the ego. The response to the first question proves that both the respondents are generative in their career but feel stagnant in their family life. Bernice Levin Neugarten reflects that middle-aged people possess different perceptions, related to their male/female role in the family (Neugarten, 1968, p. 4).

Use of Language in Waiting for Lefty Essay Example for Free
Use of Language in Waiting for Lefty Essay Clifford Odet used a wide range of language techniques to convey the differences between the different characters, the relationships between the different characters, and the attitudes of individual characters. The language that the characters use in the play tells us about their personal details, such a what class they belong to and whether they were educated or not. From looking at the character of Joe we see that he is of working class and not particularly well educated. We know this as he uses a great deal of colloquialism in his speech, pulluckas. Also by looking at the language used in the text we see how Odets has tried to convey to the actors how to say certain line. For example the character Joe again, says, helluva. In Standard English this would be written as, hell of a. Odets however has written it like this so that the actor knows exactly how to read the line. The words are supposed to be rushed and squashed together, again another sign of Joes working class status. Another reason why Odets has chosen to use language like the above is to add an essence of realism to his play. He wanted to make sure that real people (working classes) could relate to the message that he was conveying in his play so therefore he needed to speak their language. Use of such language would have been good to get the audience on a characters side and round to their way of thinking. It would have made the working class audience at home with the characters. Odets also liked to use Similes. Fatt was just but one character that spoke a lot of rhetoric language. E. g. out like lions and in like lambs. Such phrases gave the audience things to think about and gave a contrast to the colloquialism also used. It also showed which characters where better educated than others and therefore were less likely to be working class. Odets also favoured the use of colours in his language. At one point in the play Fatt says, red and yellow makes a dirty colour boys. The red, referring to communists and the yellow referring to cowards. This use of colours in the language added to the texture of the piece. It allowed the audience to think more deeply about what was actually being said without being to taxing on their brains. The use of racist language also shows us the ignorant attitudes of many people back in the 1920s. It is also only the rich, upper class, pompous characters that the audience are supposed to unlike, that use racist language. Perhaps in Clifford Odets cries for a more equal society he was also quietly calling for the liberation and equal rights of blacks and Jews. In conclusion I think that the colloquial language that Odets used ensured a popular contemporary audience whilst the rhetoric language allowed for a more educated audience member to break down underlying meanings behind the text. I have found Odets use of language both appropriate and well thought out in this play.

Sonnet 138 Essay -- Literary Analysis, Shakespeare
Truth and honesty are key elements to a good, healthy relationship. However, in Shakespeare's Sonnet 138, the key to a healthy relationship between the speaker and the Dark Lady is keeping up the lies they have constructed for one another. Through wordplay Shakespeare creates different levels of meaning, in doing this, he shows the nature of truth and flattery in relationships. Shakespeare's Sonnet 138 is one of his sonnets about the Dark Lady. Dark both in appearance, and in her actions, she is once again the subject of the sonnet. The speaker is the lover of the Dark Lady. Whether the speaker is married to her or not is not completely clear. Based on lines regarding age ââ¬Å"...she knows my days are past the bestâ⬠(6), it seems that they have been together for a long time, but not necessarily married. The sonnet doesn't sound like the speaker is talking to anyone, but rather musing to himself. When reading aloud, the sonnet sounds like it could a soliloquy, simply the speakers saying his thoughts out loud to himself. The first quatrain In this sonnet the speaker starts to reveal more about the relationship between him and the Dark Lady, and also his fear of growing old. He starts the sonnet by saying ââ¬Å"When my love swears she is made of truth/ I do believe her, though I know she liesâ⬠(1-2). In these first two lines the speaker contradicts himself right away by saying that he believes her, but knows she is not telling the truth. He is very aware of the delusion he is in, but he is willing to let it pass. He is willing to let it pass because of the mutual dishonesty that exists in the relationship. In the next two lines, he talks about youth, and age. He is talking about the Dark Lady considering him a younger ma... ...anings of the word. The ironic part about it, the only reason they lie together, in the sexual meaning of the word, is because they are lying to each other. Without the lie, their relationship would fall apart. There are a number of words used twice throughout the sonnet. The words ââ¬Å"truthâ⬠, ââ¬Å"liesâ⬠, ââ¬Å"loveâ⬠, ââ¬Å"bestâ⬠, ââ¬Å"whereforeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"thinkâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"knowâ⬠are all used twice. The fact that they are all used twice helps to emphasize the duality of their relationship. There are two sides to these people, and this relationship has two faces as well. All of these words can be used to describe the relationship between the speaker and the Dark Lady. More specifically, all the words can be understood multiple ways. They both know the truth about the other, but aren't willing to accept their own truths. They lie to each other while they lie with each other, and others.

Luxury Good and Gucci Essay
Gucciââ¬Ës overall strategy was to vertically integrate to strengthen its overall brand image. After vertically integrating they acquired other luxury retailers to continue to grow horizontally and to increase economies of scope. The economics of the luxury goods industry changed forcing Gucci to modify its strategy. Consumers demand shifted from classic style buyers to style conscious buyers. Gucci not only had to change due to the economics of the industry but they also had several problems with their existing structure. Hence Gucci made the following moves to reposition it to compete in the new economics of the luxury goods industry. Gucci The partnership between DeSole and Ford addresses the companyââ¬â¢s inability to have streamlined decision making and consistent branding throughout the company. By partnering product design and strategy, Gucci can now make product and business decisions that deliver a consistent message externally. All products and communications will support the brand image of a luxury goods retailer that Gucci wants to deliver to the marketplace. The cost cutting and targeted layoffs address Gucciââ¬â¢s poor cost structure. While profit margins were healthy, the extravagant spending by the former CEO was reducing profitability. The company had excess headcount in some areas and less in others. The layoffs improved Gucciââ¬â¢s cost structure and streamline the organization. Secondly, Gucci lacked the management talent to run a high end luxury company. By laying off underperforming managers and hiring experienced business executives, Gucci significantly improved the quality of its management team. The cash investment by PPR protects Gucci from hostile takeovers by competitors. The improvement in Gucciââ¬â¢s capital structure enables Gucci to move from an acquisition target to a potential acquirer of substitutes and new entrants. This is critical because in the fashion industry, new brands are always emerging in the market. The $3 billion dollar cash investment enables Gucci to protect its core market better. Additionally, the acquisition of YSL through the merger diversifies Gucciââ¬â¢s product portfolio and creates high barriers to entry. Buyers Due to changing consumer demands, Gucci started to focus on fashion in particular the ââ¬Å"glamorous edge. â⬠Since switching cost for consumers are low and consumers are now demanding new fashions every season focusing on seasonal trends competitively positioned Gucci against its rivals and impeded consumers from finding substitutes. Gucci changed its target consumer from an older more conservative buyer to a modern, youthful, fashion conscious one. Since all of Gucciââ¬â¢s competitors had the same target (30-50 year affluent women) going after a modern, youthful spirited consumer allows Gucci to focus on a different segment of the luxury market, capturing a different slice of the pie. To create loyalty, give consumers options, and to prevent consumers from switching and buying a substitute product Gucci decided to revolutionize their product assortments to correspond with the seasonal trends. In addition they increased the quality of their products comparable to Hermes and offered these products at a value to meet the consumerââ¬â¢s needs. Furthermore, Gucci tailored their product assortment in each DOS to local customers to attract more consumers in the local markets. To better forecast product demand for seasonal goods and to keep inventory costs down Gucci added customer intelligence to the decision making process to better understanding consumers buying behavior. In order to obtain higher profit margins and offer a comprehensive line of products it was necessary for Gucci to diversify its portfolio. Hence Gucci introduced items from scarves to fur coats. To remain focused and maintain its ââ¬Å"luxury statusâ⬠, Gucci did not introduce diffusion product lines. Gucci had initially set its prices too high hence reducing their retail prices by 30% was necessary to attract and maintain customer loyalty. In order to generate demand for the product Gucci doubled their advertising and turned Tom Ford into a celebrity hoping to attract media and attention from around the world. To restore Gucciââ¬â¢s image as a high end luxury goods retailer they renovated all of their stores to support this new image. In addition all internal and external communications had the same look and feel to convey a consistent brand identity. Furthermore, they reduced distribution through retail stores that didnââ¬â¢t support the new brand image regardless of sales. Gucci launched an official web site to create awareness and exhibit new product lines and to position themselves against their competitors. Suppliers Suppliers are a key driver of profitabilityââ¬âa key competitive force. Suppliers are responsible for delivering a premium product that satisfies the companyââ¬â¢s standards in quality and that reflects Tom Fordââ¬â¢s creative vision. Without fast turnover to meet fashion forward trend demands and a quality product, the repositioning of the Gucci brand could not have taken place. To fulfill this vision Gucci created an incentive program to keep suppliers loyal to ensure a quality product was manufactured, on time delivery, and it would prevent the suppliers from forging relationships with Gucciââ¬â¢s competitors. In addition, Gucci made suppliers more efficient through technology and logistics investments, provided training for suppliers and built an EDI network allowing Gucci to efficiently communicate with partner suppliers through the production process. As more fashion products will be produced every season along with the classic products, delivery and meeting demand could become an issue if production processes are not efficient. Investing in suppliers ensures that supplier threat, which is high, is controlled and suppliers have incentives to stay with Gucci. Supplier threat is high because of there is an absence of substitutes suppliers. Switching costs are high for Gucci ââ¬â other suppliers may be producing for their rivals. Other suppliers may not deliver the quality and craftsmanship Gucci is expecting. In addition, other suppliers do not have experience in producing Gucci products (current suppliers have been with Gucci for long time). Hence they will have a longer learning curve slowing down the production process. There are few suppliers in specific regions: Gucci suppliers had production capacity to meet Gucciââ¬â¢s growth (20-30% a year). However, finding new suppliers would be going into Pradaââ¬â¢s territory. With more growth, suppliers gained bargaining power with sub-suppliers and with Gucci. Initially, Gucci had power because suppliers worried that Gucci would go overseas for suppliers. Complementors Complementors are a not a high threat to Gucci because there only a few of them, media and advertising. Competition There are many firms in this industry because profit margins are high. However with the number and volume of M&A activity on the rise, consolidation is imminent with a few big players left in the market. Consolidation among competition has given competitors lower cost structure resulting in a competitive advantage such as ad purchasing discounts and supplier negotiating power. The competitors have a diversified product portfolio to target multiple segments of the market. They dominate in particular segments, for example Hermes and leather bags. Since there is slow industry growth precipitating fights for market share is certain to occur. This may result in a high threat from competitors such as LVMH and Prada. Threat of Entry The threat of entry is low because brand identity and product differentiation has been well established in this industry. In addition, access to distribution channels is limited and the new entrant would be competing with already established channels of distribution for Gucci and others firms. Gucci and other competitors have substantial resources to fight back because they of their monetary resources and could obstruct the new entrant or buy them out.

Global Leadership and People Management
Global Leadership and People Management Introduction In the contemporary world, businesses and large organisations have become global entities by adopting universal business and leadership laws. For example, in the United Kingdom (UK), every large corporation has subsidiary businesses outside the UK boundaries, as it has been the global trend for every business seeking international competitive advantage. Consequently, this trend has led to multicultural teams in the workplace, which often operate under a centralised leadership.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Global Leadership and People Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Multicultural teamwork is challenging to leaders who are supposed to understand the cultural adversities and prioritise them in the decision-making processes in order to avoid reluctance and other negative behaviours from any team regarding its cultural violation. However, multicultural teamwork has many advantages to both the b usiness and individual members as it gives room for bigger markets and new product variations amongst other benefits, but various problems often outdo the feasible benefits and especially those emerging from cultural differences and prejudice. This paper looks into personal characters in the creative industry where multicultural teamwork practice is common. Global Leadership and People Management In a global business environment, leadership and people management goes hand in hand in the execution of leadership roles. Different studies have shown that global leadership calls for different leadership structures that conform to various cultural values of people falling under the command of a certain leader. For instance, a large corporation such as Wal-Mart chain stores, which operate in various countries across different cultures, have different management structures conforming to every dominant cultural value in every country. However, the biggest cultural adversity emerges from reli gious values where Islamic countries have different leadership values that differ from other countries where other religious values are dominant. Managing Multicultural Teams Managing multicultural teams is a complex task that often calls for complex leadership strategies. The practice of multicultural leadership started during the era of civilisation when exploration of new opportunities across the world was at hike. For instance, colonists exercised multicultural leadership over their colonies and the same strategy has been adopted by large organisations such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth Nations among others. These organisations have a centralised form of leadership that takes into account the different cultural values of their subordinates. In addition, global businesses have adopted the same management strategies although various challenges arise due to the pressing urge to focus on profit maximisation.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? L et's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The most common management strategy of the multicultural team environment in the global phenomenon is often very different between the political and business leadership and management structure. The political structure is easier to manage than the business structure as politics take charge of the followers as opposed to business leadership that should conform to the wants of the clients. Hence, it is easier for political leadership to lead a multicultural team than is the case for a business leadership. Looking into the business leadership, the centralised management, which is normally at the headquarters, often plays the role of overseeing the business progress over the subsidiaries, whereas the leadership takes place at the subsidiary level. For instance, the newly established Wal-Mart store in the United Arab Emirate (UAE) will have its own unique leadership structure from other stores due t o religious culture in the region, and hence the overall leadership will take place at the subsidiary level, while the US-based headquarters oversees the business progress for decision-making purposes. Main Characteristics of a Multicultural Team Multicultural teams possess various characteristics, but looking at it from the business perspective, it is clear that the most dominant characteristics are due to difficulties in language and accent variations, differences in cultural values and beliefs, different attitudes towards management hierarchy, and conflict in the decision making process norms. To begin with language and accent variations, according to Cheng et al. (2012), the generally accepted business language in the world of business is normally English, but many countries have other first languages. This aspect makes it difficult for a majority of citizens to communicate fluently in English, as they have to learn the language in their adulthood. Hence, managing multicultural team in any organisation or business is made difficult by language problems that some people go through, thus forcing leaders to use various languages so as to accommodate the disadvantaged individuals. Secondly, the element of differences in cultural values and beliefs is another major characteristic in the multicultural team environment. People have their norms and values that are strongly attached to their cultural values. It is very difficult for business managers and organisational leaders that operate within the multicultural team phenomenon to attain effective leadership as opposed to those operating within the single-cultural phenomenon.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Global Leadership and People Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Multicultural environment requires one to respect various cultures in leadership in order to avoid prejudice and offending some individuals on cultural backgrounds, where as in a single-cultural environment, cultural values do not present as dominant factors in the leadership. Thirdly, the aspect of different attitudes towards management hierarchy is also a dominant characteristic in a multicultural team environment. Various forms of organisational leadership structures in the world are based on either cultural or political environment. For instance, socialist political environments have organisational structures that allow leaders to have higher authority over their followers as opposed to the capitalist environments. For instance, it is often very hard for a Chinese worker to enjoy the freedom of speech enjoyed by an American worker due to their different political backgrounds. Hence, it would be more difficult for a Chinese organisation to apply authoritative leadership over its American employees than is the case of an American organisation managing its Chinese employees. However, in the contemporary world, international organisations have adopte d common leadership structures so as to accommodate cultural diversities, but not fully practical in some cultures in various parts of the world. Lastly, conflict in the decision-making process norms is also a dominant characteristic in a multicultural team environment. Culture has a strong impact on human values, as it is the backbone of human behavioural system. In the decision making process, decision makers take into account the moral influences that some decisions would impose on their culture. However, various conflicting issues exist in a multicultural team environment, as what seems morally right to a certain culture might be immoral to the other. Hence, decision makers go through numerous challenges as they manoeuvre around the cultural factor in the decision-making processes. However, to overcome this challenge, leaders have to prioritise the organisational affairs and thus convince their followers about the procedures taken before arriving at some decisions. Hence, the mu lticultural team phenomenon poses a threat of high time consumption in the decision-making process when decision makers try to accommodate various cultural parties in the process.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? For instance, the music and film industry falls within the creative industry where talents demand the suitability of the majority stakeholders in the industry. For instance, looking into the film industry, major developments of the industry were achieved in the twentieth century with the development s in technology and breaking cultural norms in the industry. Before the Second World War, the film industry was uniquely subject to the definitions of the cultural background of the stakeholders, and thus it was hard for any culture to imitate the work of another culture. For instance, Chinese films during the era of Bruce Lee were very different from those produced by the Americans at the same time. However, immediately after the end of the Second World War, the film industry changed rapidly from a s ingle-culture affair to a multicultural affair. Studies have shown the creative industry to be the leading industry in uniting different cultures across the world with sports, film, and music industry being the most dominant. Beginning with sports industry, the majority of sports are multicultural teamwork where participants are governed by common rules of the game. Hence, sports play a major role in bringing people of different cultures together and forcing different individuals to adopt similar personal characteristics in the industry. For instance, the majority of football players in the English Premier League belong to different cultures from countries across the world, but the sporting industry brings them together in the United Kingdom where they adopt similar personal characteristics. Secondly, the film industry also plays a major role in uniting different cultures and bringing forth similar personal characteristics in the industry. Looking into the film work of the early twe ntieth century, the industry was entirely a single-culture affair with a limited chance for actors to have different cultural backgrounds. The major hindrance to multicultural teamwork in the film work seems to have been language problems and hostile political environment as the norms changed soon after the Second World War. In the modern world of film industry, we find major movie companies in various parts of the world to have adopted multicultural participants. The most dominant being the Hollywood movie industry of the United States that often offers scholarship to movie actors from all over across the world. Studies show that movies produced in the United States have multicultural characteristics due to the various cultural backgrounds of the American citizens. Hence, the film industry, being a creative industry, has played a major role in bringing different cultures together and then making them have similar personal characteristics (Halverson, Tirmizi 2008). Thirdly, the mus ic industry also plays a major role in uniting different cultures across the world. The music industry has been rated second most influential creative industry across the world. Music is often defined as a universal language where a listener does not need to understand the language in use in order to like a song; on the contrary, all one needs is to listen to the sound from instruments and tone variations. Every culture across the world has music as part of cultural activities. Surprisingly, every culture likes adopting music from other cultures in an effort to run away from the monotony of the indigenous music. Hence, music brings people of different cultures together as each culture tries to learn from the others, and thus similar personal characteristics are produced. In the American music industry, the most famous musicians belong to various cultures, but the industry brings their personal characters together when they perform collaborative music. Different Personal Characterist ics in the Creative Industry Although, the creative industry has played a major role in bringing multicultural teamwork into an environment of common characteristics, in some cases different personal characteristics persist. Reviewing the definition of the creative industry, clearly creativity and talent are the main ingredients of success of the industry. However, some cultures do not allow for multicultural practices in order to prevent their creativity. For instance, some protection mechanisms protect the rights of ownership of various cultural creativity products in various countries across the world. In the sports industry, some sports are strongly attached to various cultures and they appear difficult for other cultures across the world to adopt them without the acceptance of the cultures owning the sport. This case is the same for the film industry where some cultures seem to have retained the old norm of the single-culture affair. For instance, in the Indian film industry, t he Hindu culture dominates the majority of the films. However, other cultures are being adopted in the industry as they focus more on attaining larger world markets. Although the world markets may not welcome single-culture products very well, it is important to understand that many cultures would want to retain dominance in their products, as such products underscore their pride. Hence, different personal characteristics in the creative industry are necessary for protecting cultural creativity products, which underscore cultural pride. In order to retain cultural products and creativity tools, personal characteristics play a major role in the exercise. Personal characteristics are used to welcome other cultures, in the case of multicultural teamwork, or discard them in the case of the single-cultural affair. The major personal characteristics include language and cultural values. The cultural language in the creative industry is used to mark cultural ownership and pride in a given product. Hence, it is difficult for other cultures to imitate the product without the permission of the culture of origin of the product. In addition, some cultural values are used to mark ownership of a product, which include colour, shapes, and other elements. For instance, the Chinese and the Japanese are fond of using various colours and shapes that are of great significance to their cultures and they are known to protect their products by using those colours and shapes in the branding whenever they do not want the involvement of other cultures (Daft 2007). Conclusion Managing multicultural teamwork is not an easy task for leaders and managers in business or political arena. Every individual has a strong attachment to the culture of belonging, and thus personal characteristics are often different whenever one does not need to adopt other cultural practices. On the other hand, it is easy to achieve effective management over multicultural teamwork by implementing strategies that a llow the participation of other cultures without violation of their moral rights. This aspect calls for the adoption of common language that unites people from across different cultures and values that respect the cultural diversity of the stakeholders like is the case of the creative industry that calls for the adoption of almost similar personal characteristics.
